The Best Cookie Recipe Ever!

Fall is here! With cooler weather fast approaching; kitchens in America become the perfect spot to gather with family members and friends, while baking goodies for the next meal or upcoming holiday parites. On a chilly day, the combination of the heat generated from the stove or oven, along with the aroma of what is cooking, is an unspoken open invitation. I don't know about you, but the aroma of fresh baked cookies is hypnotic and makes you want to be the first in line to give it a taste.

Sugar, Ginger, Snicker-doodles, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and shortbread among others, are not just cookies, but a heritage from countries with a passion and love for baking. Traditional cookies have been made by generations of families and country cooks using locally grown ingredients such as fresh farm eggs, milk and butter. Give a plate of cookies to anyone and you will see that, with very little effort, you can get big smiles.

2 sticks of butter or margarine softened.
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour

In a large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and blend well. Add flower and mix until just combined. Wrap dough in plastic wrap; flatten slightly, refrigerate for about one hour. Heat oven to 375 Fahrenheit. Work with 1/4 of the dough at a time; keep remainder refrigerated. Roll dough out to half inch thickness on lightly floured surface and cut into desired shape. Place on ungreased cookie sheets spacing about 1 inch apart. Bake about 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks. Store in airtight containers.
