Cider Vinagar BBQ Sauce Recipe

There are so many BBQ sauces out there and each recipe claims to be “the best” one anywhere on the planet (I don’t know how since we all have different tastes). Without a doubt, barbecue sauce has become one of the most well-liked condiments of our time. Don’t believe me?  The next time you are in your grocery store, look around or better yet, count how many kinds they have on the shelf.  If you know me, you know what I am going to say next. Making your own barbecue sauce lets you control not only the flavors, but the ingredients you put in.  If you don’t like garlic, you don’t have to put any in. It’s that simple.  I am not saying don’t ever buy BBQ sauce at the store. I have a store-bought bottle in my refrigerator but it is not what I like to serve on a special occasion, if you catch my drift.  I have a good recipe I  would like to share with you. Some recipes call for red pepper flakes and if that floats your boat, sail away!

Cider Vinegar BBQ Sauce:

1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup  mustard
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer gently, stirring, for 10 minutes until the sugar dissolves.  Refrigerate if you are not going to use it immediately.

Your BBQ sauce sounds spectacular.

I'm guilty of being the one that buys the store-bought ones and keeps a bottle hidden in the fridge, but Steph always goes her own way and makes hers from scratch. She doesn't follow a recipe from what I can see, but maybe she has it memorized. I never bothered asking about it, but it always comes out tasty and twangy.

We need molasses in this house.
