Billy Goat Cookies: A great Snack

1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. butter milk
4 1/2 c. nuts
1 lb. chopped dates

In an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar till well blended. Add egg yolks and vanilla. Beat at medium speed 2 or 3 minutes. Sift dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Add butter milk. Blend by hand. Add nuts and dates. Drop by 1/2 teaspoons on cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 9-10 minutes. Do not overcook. They should be just lightly browning around the edges when you take them out of the oven, and still quite soft in the middle. As they cool, they'll be a little crispy around the edges and moist in the middle. They are great cookies for shipping.  You may refrigerate dough and use as needed.
